The inflation targets by governments don't make sense. The official inflation rate is measured by the same government that causes it. It is clearly wrong according to exchange rates. The inflation rate matches worker wages, and ignores the wealth increase amongst the rich minority where most of the extra money goes. Inflation targeting strives to suppress wages.
US inflation (blue) matches wages (red) except for a suspicious deviation since the great recession of 2009. Total debt divided amongst the population (green) has increased 6x more than wages since 1960.

Relative to total US debt as approximate money in circulation, volume has apparently not changed much for 12 years.

All governments print money. The value of currencies is a relative race to the bottom. Shown are US total debt growth (blue), Euro Area M3 money supply (red), and Japan (green). US money grew at 8.2% per year since 1970. The Japanese Yen should be the stongest. It was until 2012, but has since weakened. Low real interest rates could have a short term effect. Perhaps the market expects for Japan to create more money in the future due to its enormous debt.
Since 2009 the US (blue) and Japan (red) created money at a similar rate until 2017. The US (blue) has moved ahead again.
