"The study found that the incidence of experiencing symptoms one year after infection decreased during the pandemic from 10.42 cases for every 100 people for unvaccinated individuals in the pre-Delta period, to 3.5 cases a 100 people for vaccinated individuals in the Omicron period. They estimate that roughly 72% of the reduction in long Covid was due to the vaccines, while 28% was linked to changing variants."

Vaccination after COVID improves immunity; ivermectin fails in major trial - Reuters.

One of these studies (Effectiveness of CoronaVac, ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, BNT162b2, and Ad26.COV2.S among individuals with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection in Brazil: a test-negative, case-control study) is difficult to understand. They started off with 42.3M individuals who were entered into the SARS-CoV-2 notification system, but then they say only 23.4M had a valid SARS-CoV-2 test. Why were the other 18.8M recorded into the system?

.... Then they say 213 457 had a subsequent, symptomatic illness, but only 14.5% tested positive. The other 85.5% were used as control. They found that vaccines were 40% to 65% effective against symptomatic reinfection. How do you determine from a group who had symptoms that they were protected against symptoms? It makes no sense.

.... In the Ivermectin study, patients with symptoms were given the medicine once daily for three days. Over the subsequent 28 days, 100 of the Ivermectin group had a hospital or emergency event, compared to 111 for the placebo group. The question is whether a medication can eliminate a virus in 3 days. Other studies found a reduction in symptoms during 5 days of treatment.

The high number of Omicron cases in high vaccination countries suggests that vaccines have prevented the body from developing natural resistance, which we know is better. The data is however difficult to interpret since most cases is still amongst the unvaccinated. Countries with lax preventative measures, and low vaccination rates have fewer cases. For example, Egypt with 22% fully vaccinated, has in total only reported 3723 cases per million, and 208 deaths per million. Is it due to a lack of tests and medical facilities? Israel was first with vaccinations, and has in total 159,296 cases per million, with 886 death per million. Their new cases have shot up higher than previous waves.

South Africa with its low vaccination rate, had a small, short peak of the Omicron variant at 23,200 new cases, compared to countries with high vaccination rates. The US new cases was 446,000 yesterday (for 5 times the population). The low number in South Africa could be partially due to lack of testing, and the summer season, as opposed to the winter in the northern hemisphere.

I spent yesterday pulling together hospitalisations for Gauteng province, so we can compare the fledging Omicron wave to those that preceded it. So far admissions following ~same path as past waves." - Twitter. The ratio of hospitalizations to cases is lower than previous waves (4.8% compared to 8.2% for Delta). Each new wave has a lower rate of hospitalizations.

Sweden had two peaks, and low cases the rest of the time: Wordometer. Why the peaks were so late (end of 2020) without lockdowns is strange. Other countries with lockdowns had peaks at the same time, suggesting that the lockdowns made no difference. If there were no lockdowns, no vaccines, and people were instead treated with vitamin D, Quercetin, etc. the pandemic might have been over a long time ago.

According to the US CDC 6207 people died of the vaccine up to 19 July 2021. That is 0.0038% of the 161M people fully vaccinated. The US deaths from the COVID-19 virus was 625 000, which is 100 times greater than from the vaccine. The virus deaths were 0.188% of the population. If most people have been exposed to the virus, deaths from the virus is 50 greater than from the vaccine. Most of the vulnerable people have died already, and the mortality rate would have declined anyway. The vaccine is still saving lives, but the ratio would be down.

In the media and on Twitter, people often report the deaths due to COVID-19. It creates a distorted view. In the US for example 10.56% of the population has been infected with the virus according to reported cases, and 0.188% of the population died from it, which is about 1 in 500. Deaths were 1.78% of the reported cases.

Antibodies were found in one of five US blood donations (Health Day). If 20% have antibodies, but 10.6% tested for the virus, then about 50% had no symptoms, and therefore did not get tested. When antibodies are no longer required, they also fade away to numbers that are undetectable. The percentage without symptoms could be higher.

The majority probably do not even develop antibodies, because T-cells are able to protect against the virus without antibodies. If 10% tested positive, then either people isolated well, or up to 90% were infected, but had no symptoms.

Deaths in the US peaked 17 Jan 2021, a month after vaccinations started 14 Dec 2020.

Vietnam has vaccinated 4.1% of the population, and the daily new cases have now shot up after remaining extremely low since the pandemic started. That is weird.

Egypt has vaccinated 3.5% of the population, and the daily new cases and deaths have fallen to the lowest level since April 2020.

Vitamin D

The medical profession appears incapable of offering clear treatment recommendations. Government leadership is completely absent. Over the last year several treatments were reported as successful, only to be discredited later. There isn't even agreement on vitamin D.

From 12 Nov 2020: Short term, high-dose vitamin D supplementation for COVID-19 disease: a randomised, placebo-controlled, study (SHADE study) - PubMed: "10 (62.5%) participants in the intervention group (60,000 IU of vitamin D for 7 days) and 5 (20.8%) participants in the control arm (p<0.018) became SARS-CoV-2 RNA negative. Fibrinogen levels significantly decreased with cholecalciferol (vitamin D) supplementation (intergroup difference 0.70 ng/ml; P=0.007) unlike other inflammatory biomarkers." The Fibrinogen can lead to blood clots.

From 18 Feb 2021: Vitamin D not effective in moderate to severe COVID, study finds - Medical Xpress. The volunteers were randomly divided into two groups, one of which was given vitamin D3 in a single dose of 200,000 units (IU). Daily recommended intake is 400-800 IU, some studies say 1000-4000 IU.

.... "7.6% (of the vitamin D group) vs 14.4% (of the placebo group) needed mechanical ventilation" - that is a big difference.

.... Vitamin D Supplementation: An Update - U.S. Pharmacist. "Calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3), the active form of vitamin D, has a half-life of about 15 hours". The above study gave the test group a once-off overdose. Presumably the body would have only processed the quantity it needed, which would have worn off in a day. The "not effective" study above appears to be worthless.

It looks like the majority of some populations have already been infected but not recorded because they were asymptomatic. Due to the incompetence of politicians no studies were done.

The UK's COVID-19 daily cases have declined from a peak of 59,653 on 10 Jan to 13,200 now, and daily deaths are falling fast from a 1240 peak to 671 now. Total cases stand at 4.048M and deaths 117,396. Vaccinations stand at 23% of the population.

France's COVID-19 daily cases has declined from a peak of 55,282 on 8 Nov to level out to 18,302 now. Daily death peaked at 667 and has levelled off to 386 now. Total cases stand at 3.465M and deaths 81,814. Vaccinations stand at 4.4% of the population.

Spain's COVID-19 daily cases has declined from a peak of 30,446 on 16 Jan and falling fast to 12,322 now. Daily death remain at 393 now. Total cases stand at 3.056M and deaths 64,747. Vaccinations stand at 5.2% of the population.

Vaccinations should take daily cases and deaths to zero. The UK's death rate is still higher despite being ahead with vaccinations, which is strange. It looks like a significant percentage of some populations have already been exposed to the virus over the past year, for whom vaccinations will make no difference.

Israel started vaccinations on 19 Dec 2020. Since then daily new cases have gone up from about 2500 to 7500, and daily deaths from 15 to 54 (Worldometers). The US started on 14 Dec, daily new cases have increased slightly, and deaths from 2600 to 3200 (Worldometers). Due to the large numbers of people being vaccinated a small percentage will be negatively impacted?

The effect of early treatment with ivermectin on viral load, symptoms and humoral response in patients with non-severe COVID-19: A pilot, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial - The Lancent. "Among patients with non-severe COVID-19 and no risk factors for severe disease receiving a single 400 mcg/kg dose of ivermectin within 72 h of fever or cough onset there was no difference in the proportion of PCR positives. There was however a marked reduction of self-reported anosmia/hyposmia, a reduction of cough and a tendency to lower viral loads and lower IgG titers which warrants assessment in larger trials."

One important statistic governments need to make decisions is the percentage of people with antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. Besides affecting the need for lock-downs, people with antibodies do not need a vaccine. ....
